Wednesdays Are Back!

The Wednesday Evening Series started today with light to no wind. We have all been looking forward to it and we have been talking about it since the switch to BST from GMT.

There were some road works near the club, so the rush hour traffic was horrendous. I managed to arrive though quite early. Because it’s still early in the season, we knew that the race should had been short. The start sequence started slightly late and the race officer thought we could do 2 laps. Unfortunately the wind was getting lighter and lighter after 19:30 and the second lap never finished.

I quite enjoyed the fact that the pace was slow, but sometimes you were trying to get some speed and there was no wind! I was in front of Pete for a big part of the race. He managed to leap ahead and I was battling with Douglas and Charmian. On the second lap and with Charmian astern and Pete ahead of me and closing in on him, came the ridiculous end of the race. The committee boat went around the course backwards giving finishes to everyone. By that time I didn’t know what had happened and I was a bit pissed off.

I went in, and I started de-rigging the boat because it was getting seriously dark. All the time I was worried I will loose something because it was dark by this time. After I had shower we checked the results and it turns out that the race officer didn’t give me or Pete a finish. It was all quite shambolic, so we decided that we should only count the 1st lap. That placed me behind Charmian, BUT ahead of Pete! Next in the queue is Steve. He thinks it will be a long time until it happens, but when it will, I’ll make sure he won’t forget. :)))

Seriously, I need to move forward in the fleet. Soon I will have the people behind me coming closer and challenging me. I think that it won’t be a long time until I will write that I finished looking at Ben’s or James’ transom. Anyway, more action on Sunday and hopefully Pete will be more aware of me and fall into errors. Strangely enough, Brent was further ahead. I guess the light winds help him, since he is a featherweight.
