Nice Wednesday
Today, I arrived at the club in time for this evening’s racing. I rigged a Laser and somehow today I took a sail from the garage that had tell-tales.
The tell-tales, are small pieces of light string 2-3 inches long hanging from both sides of the sail. While sailing in a beat or a reach, provided that your sails are set properly, both tell-tales have to be streaming back. If the leeward tell-tale is hanging you need to point more to the wind. If the windward tell-tale is hanging you need to bear away.
I launched and went to the start line quite early. I had a quite good start and for a while I was sailing with all the Lasers. Later on I was left behind, but I was doing quite well. I was looking at the tell-tales all the time and they helped quite a lot. Actually I spent more time looking at the tell-tales than forward.
I finished the race and I quite enjoyed it. Most people seemed to think that it was a nice evening and they all enjoyed the race. I stayed in the bar for a while and had a couple of drinks before I came home.
More sailing on Sunday. See you then.
