Lazy Sunday

This morning I got up a bit late. I was supposed to meet Steven, Pete and Brent at the club to finish sorting out the club Lasers and maybe sail after the Merlin Rocket Open Meeting. As I was getting into my car, Steve called me. He was still at home and he said he would be at the Welsh Harp in an hour’s time. I arrived there and Pete and Brent were already there. We waited for Steve to see what we would do. The weather was not really suitable for epoxy resin and gelcoat repairs. So, it was a matter of cruising or racing.

It turns out, Steve hadn’t brought his gear and the Merlin Rockets would be out for quite some time. Steve, me and Brent decided to take a power boat so I would video the last race with the club’s camcorder and Brent would take photos with his digital camera. In the meantime Pete decided he wouldn’t join us but he would crew for someone during the third race.

We went out and we got into positions to film the start. There was a general recall so we were there for the second start. Brent was taking pictures and I was filming. Five minutes later the camcorder battery died. That was a shame really but there was nothing we could do. I just sat there. The boat was too small and with the three of us in and the wind and the little chop we got quite wet. Brent was wearing his sailing gear, but me and Steve were not really prepared for it.

After the race was finished we went in. The others left, I sat for a while, had a drink and then I left. I came home, had a hot shower and went to a party I was invited at. Quite lazy day really. We’ll sail next Sunday. Then for the following two Sundays there will be open meetings, which means that we won’t race.
