WETnesday

This morning there was a bit of a breeze and made think that today sailing would be really nice. I managed to leave the office in time, so I arrived at WSC at 18:30. It seemed still a bit windy.

I started rigging a Laser but I asked to crew in a Merlin Rocket for someone. I un-rigged quickly the Laser and went out in the Merlin. I was racing with Fred. We were too heavy for racing. Our total weight was over 34 stones! We had a not very great start and the wind started dying down. If that wasn’t enough, it even started raining. The rain got quite strong, and the wind was getting even weaker.

It was good for me because we used the spinnaker quite a lot, so I became a bit more familiar with it. I also so some other things that I can improve on my sailing. I was watching a girl in a Laser and although she was nowhere near as heavy as I am, she needed to move more forward in the boat. That means I have to be sitting even more forward than her! If I would race in a Laser today, I am almost certain that I would finish before her, because she was doing quite a few mistakes. So I wouldn’t finish last. That’s not the point though. The point is to get better compared to the same people every week.

Overall, it was good. We got really wet because of the rain. Actually if we would capsize, we would be drier! I learnt a few things, and I feel more comfortable now inside a Merlin Rocket, than before.

Sunday should be quite windy, hopefully. Looking forward to it!
