Sinking Bubble
The forecast for today didn’t look very good. During the day the wind was around 10 knots. Just before 7 o’clock, the wind eased a bit, so it looked like it would be less exciting.
I went to the start line and it looked like we wouldn’t be able to lay the line on starboard. Most people were gathered at the port end of the line and I was hoping that I would start on port. I had a terrible start so I went on port under the transoms of everybody else. I thought that I could recover quite quickly but unfortunately I was falling behind. I couldn’t keep up with anybody and I was trying everything to keep the boat moving. Even at gusts I couldn’t move fast enough. It seemed I was doing everything wrong.
The MRXs caught up with me and started finishing. I was on my last lap when I realised that the deck of the boat seemed too low on the water. So I went to the back of the boat and tried to touch the bung with my hand. It was missing! Someone had taken the bung off my boat. I was fuming. I was swearing and cursing all the way back. The hull had so much water that I couldn’t pull it up the slipway. It was emptying water for more than 5 minutes! I am still angry about that. I didn’t race last Sunday because I was away and I was looking forward to today’s race. This incident messed it up for me and I am not happy about it, at all. It’s the first time my bung got stolen, but know I have to remember to take it with me. This is getting ridiculous!
Anyway, more sailing on Sunday. See you then.
