Appaling Start, Good Recovery
Light wind, shifty and 10 boats on the water. Today, I decided to use my old sail. I wanted to see how worse it is than the newer sail I have.
I went to the start line. The race officer didn’t set the ideal course, but it wasn’t very bad either. I had a really bad start and I was surrounded by Alan, Ian, Douglas and Corbin. On the downwind leg, I was windward to Ian who was luffing me up because he was trying to untangle his mainsheet. Everybody else was sailing away to our leeward and he kept on going too high. That delayed my progress, but I managed to get away from him after we rounded the leeward mark.
I had Corbin and Douglas in my sights. Corbin got away earlier but for most of the race I was hoping I would beat Douglas. I managed to get quite close to him, but not close enough. Towards the end of the race he even got further away from me, so I ended up 6th out of 10.
I wish I had finished at a better position, but it wasn’t possible. Never mind, I am quite happy with my recovery and general performance. No sailing this Sunday, more on Wednesday.
