Mid-week (in)action

Now that I have completed my Level 1 course I am ready to sail the Seven Seas! Not really, but I can go to the club, on a sailing day, to cruise. This week they started Wednesday evening racing and I though I could go. I emailed a couple of people from the club, newbies like me, but one of them could not do it, the other never replied. Not a regular email reader I guess.

Still, this morning I left home to go to the office and took my sailing gear with me. I was hoping that at the club someone would be looking for crew that evening, so I could jump in. Unfortunately there was horrendous traffic the way I was going. I heard at the radio that there was a fire somewhere around Kingsbury and they had to close a part of the North Circular. I think this made people use the surrounding routes and caused traffic jams like the one I was in. I arrived at the roundabout before the club at 19:30. Racing had started 30 minutes ago and still the 200 meters I needed to travel seemed blocked with the traffic not moving at all. I turned off at the roundabout towards home, the long way around, because my prefered route is the one that passes in front of Welsh Harp.

So, no sailing today. I wanted to see how long people sail for, when do they stop becuase of darkness and such. I am not sure it’s worth the hassle or rigging a boat just for half an hour sailing. I guess I will find out next Wednesday.

More action on Easter Sunday. I’ll keep you posted.
