Pro Rider Finishes Race on Classic Bike
Posted in News, Pro Cycling
Professional cyclist Zack Allison of Elevate Pro Cycling Team finished Stage 1 of the Tour of The Gila on a borrowed bike (from a spectator).
Earlier in the race, Zack had crashed in the back of some riders when a dog run in the course. He carried on but his rear derailleur snapped 4 km from the finish. He started walking towards the finish line when he saw a spectator and asked him for his bike, a Specialized Stumpjumper from the early 80’s. He left his broken bike “as collateral”.
Zack, I don’t think the spectator was thinking of running away with your broken bike. Steel is real after all, especially if it can help a pro finish a race.
